Dressing For Your Body Type - Banana

So, you may be thinking, why is my body being compared to a banana. Well, I really just wanted to stick with the fruit theme. Many people call this body shape rectangle, column, or ruler shaped. This body type is usually an athletic body shape, very little curve, think surfer or swimmers bodies. Your shoulders, waist and hips are relatively the same size.

So, what problem are we addressing with this body type? Creating curves where there really are none.

Here are some tips for you to follow:
  • Choose dresses and tops that have cinched waists, this will create a waist for you.
  • Structure, structure, structure!! Darting, it is going to do wonders for you.
  • You can also pull off a bolder cut, peplum! This will give you the shape you crave!
  • Maxi dresses are great for you because they usually have a seam right under the bust or a drop waist, see above. It gives a sense of shape .
  • A-Line skirts are for you. They will give you some hips.
  • Avoid clingy fabrics and fits. These will only show the world you have no curve to your body.
  • Skinny jeans in a bold color need to be paired with something with shape on top.
  • Wide leg jeans can also give your body a sense of shape, just be sure they are the right size or you will look baggy and saggy.
  • Belt everything! Not really, but belts are a great way to cinch a waist.
  • Print, texture and bulk (ruffles, lace, bows) will add another dimension with ease.

Dressing For Your Body Type - Apple

Before we talk about how to dress an apple body, let's define the term. Having an apple body shape means: a. you carry your weight on the top half of your body and b. that you pretty much have no rear-end to speak of. Generally your midsection is larger than your chest and your hips. Also, apples tend to have a larger chest.

So, how do we dress this body type? Hide that middle.

Unless you are the queen of confidence, I am sure the problem you are most concerned with is- how do I hide my belly. Well, here are a few tips to help you out.

  • Use pattern on your lower half.
  • A-Line skirts are essential in your closet.
  • Wide leg jeans and pants will balance out your larger upper-body.
  • Look for tops with a tunic shape, they don't have to be long but you do not want anything to cling to your belly.
  • Empire-waist or drop-waist dresses/shirts will also work well for you.
  • Structured jackets can be your best-friend. Structure creates the illusion of a waistline where it should be. This is also a good option when layering. Tops with darting are highly flattering as well.
  • Wear a bolder shoe! This will cause the eye to go to your slim gams!
  • Again, distract! Show some decolletage! I am not saying full blown cleavage but show as much skin as you can and still come away with your modesty intact.

Dressing For Your Body Type - Pear

Before I explain how to dress a pear shaped body, I will define exactly what it means to have a pear shaped body. It is simple really, your hips are larger than your chest and/or your waist. This is also the most common female body shape.

As you might have noticed, the pear shape can be one of the hardest bodies to dress. This is because of an uneven weight distribution. When you carry your weight in your hips, or lower half, it can be frustrating because all clothes are made for either an athletic figure or an hourglass figure. So how are you supposed to create a sense of balance? Obviously, you will need to focus on making your upper body larger while making your lower body look smaller.

To accomplish this there are a few rules/guidelines to follow:
- keep your pants as streamlined and tailored as possible, a slight flare would work for your body type but avoid pleats, tapered pants (tight at the ankle), capris and pockets that sit at the hip.
- stick to an a-line or pencil skirt. The a-line will distract from the shape of the hips and the pencil will accentuate the curves in a flattering way.
- tunics and leggings are a great idea for you. Just make sure that the tunic grazes (not clings) your hips.
- with jackets, make sure the shortest point DOES NOT sit right at your hip! Go for something a little longer.
-elongate your body and draw attention to the girls! This does not mean you have to let it all hang out but Do go for a deep v and a tank or a plunging necklace. The point is to distract the eye.
- show off your sexy, slim shoulders. A strapless maxi is a great option for you in the summer and with a cutoff jean jacket you could wear one into the fall.
- keep prints on the top half of your body!
- wear big earrings, scarves, bold necklaces, anything that can attract the eye to your face.

Finding Your Style

Typically, people have a hard time defining their style because, a. they don't know where to start or b. aren't sure what parts of their personality they want to showcase. I am here to tell you it really isn't hard. Look no further than what you love best about yourself.

Are you quirky? Do friends constantly walk into your home and say, wow what a cool piece, be it a new piece of artwork, furniture or other decoration? Do you find yourself dancing to the beat of a different drum? Why is that not also showcased in what you choose to put on your body? Where is that quirky jacket? Where are those quirky shoes? How about statement jewelry?

Are you a bona-fide heavy metal fan? Do you have a die-hard attitude? Can you even imagine missing your favorite band when they came to your town? Do you have band sticker decorating 90% of what you own? Do you envy the girls in dark eyeliner and red lips? Why are you scared to step out and do the same? Where are your spiked heels? Your brass knuckle clutch? What about a funky band t-shirt? Also, just because you are a rock-chick, it does not mean you are regulated or stuck in black, branch out!

Are you nerdy? Do you spend your days reading books or playing Skyrim? Do you have an unexplained affinity for your favorite book/video game characters? Have you imagined the perfect world in your mind and began writing about it? Own it! Check your specks. How about that Harry Potter tee you have hiding in the back of your closet? FYI, you are the only ones who can make suspenders look cute!

It's more about you trying to be you.

For me, I have what I like to call a schizophrenic style. All of the above define me in some way. I have a little claim to the country world as well (lived there half my life). No, I don't own cowboy boots but I do own a bubble vest, I also attend the rodeo on a regular basis. I listen to heavy metal and own spiked heels and band tees. On top of all of this I have a professional job. I wear suits and dresses 90% of the time. I wear statement tees under my suit jacket and my spike heels with my lbd and a colored jacket. But again, these are all aspects of me. These things combined make me who I am and make my style what it is. If someone were to go shopping for me an outfit, it would only be too easy. I have such a wide variety of tastes but all of my friends can look at something and say "That is totally her!".

It's all about defining your personality through clothing.

This is how I make my clothing reflect my personality.

My Work Week

Work wear does not have to be plain or boring. Using your accessories can liven up the most monochromatic outfit. Some great shoes can add style and flare to your Casual Friday look. Always remember to add a fun flare to keep it interesting and keep it YOU!

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials #10

And Essential #10 is accessories!!

Accessories allow you to bring your own brand of flair to any outfit. You can purchase any mannequin's outfit and make it your own, simply by changing the accessories.

Example

This dress isn't super girly but it has some super feminine flair. The hem has ruffling detail and the dress has a scalloped neckline. With different accessories I was able to create three completely different looks. The first look is very J.Lo. The wide brimmed hat and silver bangles give this look a glamorous touch. The second look is ubber-feminine and the pink notes pop with this muted dress. The third look has a bit of a punk rock flair with it's ubber-long double-chain cross necklace and spiked heels.

The important thing to remember with accessories are that they should match your specific style and personality. You will not see me with a big bow in my hair but I may do a flower... You may never see me in a flowered dress but I would do a flowered top with a blazer. It's about what makes your specific style unique.

A good example of this is my husband. He loves to match his shirt, hat and shoes. There is no fashion rule that says this is necessary but it's what makes his style completely him. I like my accessories and my shoes to match some color found in my outfit. Again, there is no fashion rule that says this is necessary but I like the polished look of a completely pulled together outfit. Also, I will wear a Bullet For My Valentine or Avenged Sevenfold t-shirt under a blazer with some heels. Sometimes I even walk out of the house in a cute t-shirt and jeans but I always do something to bump up the style factor, whether it's a new hairstyle (ehem, ladies... HAIR IS AN ACCESSORY!) or bangles, or even a jacket.

Also, accessory size should be relevant. If you are tiny, don't buy HUGE jewelry. You will look like a kid who has gone to play in her mother's closet. Also, luscious ladies, do not go buy the daintiest accessories you can find. Your limbs, neck or whatever else you can accessorize will look even bigger.

Hope you enjoyed this series of postings... Next will be, how to dress your specific body type.

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials - Essential #

Wardrobe essential #9 - A Nice Tee

Here's where fashion/taste can really come to a head. This is the item people choose that can make or break a mix and match wardrobe. I say this because people tend to not pay attention to fit when they are purchasing a tee. They buy it too baggy or too tight... They buy it too low cut... or too high cut.

Some essential rules for the Tee:
  • If you have a large chest, MAKE SURE you are purchasing a tee that has a low cut neckline. Either a vee-neck or a faux-wrap. It can be a scoop neck as well but it must expose as much neckline as possible without showing too much cleavage. If you try to wear a crew neck or turtle-neck, you will look even bigger.
  • On the flip side, girls with small chests, DON'T SHOW WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE. I have seen MANY small girls try to wear low cut shirts. The only thing they succeeded in was proving that there was nothing there to see. However, crew-necks and turtle-necks will make you chest look bigger. Take Jennifer Aniston as an example. She has GREAT skinny/athletic girl style. Her necklines are sometimes VERY high and her sexy back exposed. Play up YOUR best features.
  • Buy a universal tee. What I mean by this is, buy something you could wear to the office on Jean Friday or to a concert that night. It needs to be fun and it needs to be you.
I made the mistake of thinking I could put on a pair of jeans and any old tee a while ago. I bought plenty of the same tees in different colors. It made my style truly boring. I don't ever want to hear the words... "Oh that shirt again", come out of anyone's mouth again. (This being said by my own mother after I showed her some things I had purchased one day).

This is also where you will see all elements of your style come together... Let me show you what I mean...
Here is a single tee with all of the elements we have covered so far. You see how the tee pairs well with the broken up suit in examples #1 and #3. Then in example #2 we have the A-Line skirt and the cardigan. I've even decided to throw in all the essential shoe types. This is how you build an "essentially" functional wardrobe. The only thing not shown here is essential #10 (well and technically #2) and that we will save for another day!!

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials- Essential #8

Wardrobe Essential #7 is the Cardigan!

The cardigan is essential because it changes the look of an outfit. Why is this important? You know that dress you love... you know, the one you've worn roughly a thousand times? How about that t-shirt you just can't get enough of? Putting a cardigan on over your dress or tee will completely change the look of the outfit. Plus, cardigans and camis are the easiest way to make an outfit come together.

How to Wear a Cardigan
I honestly don't know why all of my chosen looks came out ubber-feminine today, but they did. Anyway...

The first look is a day-to-night look. The sparkly top is offset by the grey cardigan and darker denim. The cardigan has a fun shape and ubber-feminine appeal. The rose detail makes it a statement piece instead of just a piece to keep you warm. The shape of this cardigan could work for the skinny girl as well as those who fall somewhere in the middle but curvier girls should avoid this particular cut.

The second look is another meet-the-parents outfit. It's "buttoned up" and polished. The shoes give it an added flair but this cardigan is a bit more plain, and that's okay, it simply means it is a bit more versatile. And versatility is key in your wardrobe essentials. This is a good shape for all sizes. It skims your body without gripping it. It is easy to belt and it is easy to leave open.

The third look is just a fun girlie look for anytime. The cardigan is detailed and creates such visual interest. This may not be as versatile as the other two, because of its design, but it is still a piece that will attract attention. This style should be avoided by women with large chests. Ruffles are not your friends.

A few more tips:
  • To create an hourglass shape buy wrap cardigans.
  • If you have a large chest stay away from anything that clasps or ties at the neck. You want the visual line to be broken under your breasts. Empire waist, belted or wrap cardis are the way to go.
  • If you have large hips avoid the longer cardigans. It is not distracting or covering, it is attracting (and not in a good way).
  • Skinny girls, rock the ubber-long cardi... It will look fabulous on you! Draped looks work best on a lanky figure. If you have a fit body grab one with a belt that cinches around your waist.
  • Anything that can be belted is always a good thing.
  • A sweater set is always a good option. It takes some of the guess work out of getting dressed in the morning. Just make sure you are purchasing two separate pieces, not a faux undershirt. These have a tendency to not fit correctly.
  • Avoid fabrics that are too thick because this should be a piece you can wear for three of the four seasons. (I am discounting Summer. Who wears a cardi in the Summer LOL).

Latest Purchases

These are my latest purchases! Bought the dress on bottom for an interview! I absolutely LOVE NY&CO.!!!

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials- Essential #6

Let's talk shoes!!!

Shoes can make or break a wardrobe just as easily as refusing to buy shapewear. Why? They finish the look of your outfit. I have to admit, I am a bit of a shoe-junkie. I cannot stop myself from buying the next big shoe trend. I have some red heels with spikes all over them. I have a pair of TOMS. I have ballet flats in all different colors... it's an addiction. But I'm not here to talk about my shoe addiction, I am here to address some DOs and DON'Ts in the realm of shoes, as well as remind you what shoes you should be purchasing.

Since it's spring, and summer is just around the corner, I figured I would address sandals first.

Who doesn't love a good sandal? They are versatile and airy. They can be worn with shorts or jeans and still look great. They compliment skirts well. There is a lot that can be said about a good sandal.

Now to address some issues:

BUY LEATHER!!!- This is essential in choosing a good sandal. Leather is comfortable and will not scratch your feet up like the fake plastic ones will. Why spend $30 on a pedicure just to have your shoes destroy it?

NO FLIP FLOPS OR CROCS!!!- This does not a sandal make... When I am talking about sandals I would like you to take in the picture above. Yes there is a pair of LEATHER thongs but they are not the $3 plastic things that engulf half of your local Old Navy. I have nothing against Old Navy and in fact I shop there quite often, I just wish they would STOP promoting flip-flops as the GO-TO sandal. Flip-flops were made for the beach and the dorm hall showers. Do I even need to say why Crocs are a bad idea? I think not!!!

Sandals should reflect your personal style. - Don't go out and buy the cutest pair of sandals you can find just because I told you to. See the black gladiators? I own some like those, a lot of what is in the above picture is too cutesy for me but I have found gladiators have just enough of an edgy look that I am more than willing to wear them. On the flip side, gladiators have an edgier look to them... if that's not your style, don't buy them. Maybe the red one with the hearts suits you more. That is more than okay. We do not all have the same style and it would be a really boring world if we did.

Shoe #2- The Wedge!!
Okay, I am aware that this is not everyone's favorite style of shoe but it is an essential because it brings a fun and funky quirk to your wardrobe. They are GREAT shoes to wear with jeans! They are also a summer/spring essential because you can walk a long distance in a nice platform heel without taking the pain, and sinking heel episodes, you would have in your heels. They come in so many different styles I had a hard time trying to decide which ones to showcase in my picture.

And shoe #3- HEELS!!!!

Every woman should have 2-3 pairs of KILLER heels! These are the shoes that make you feels sexy and empowered! Do they have to be 5inches tall? NO! (although, you wouldn't know by looking in MY closet LOL) But they do nee to be a height that allows you a level of confidence.

The Kitten Heel- Even though there are none shown in the above picture, I know of a few women who are completely satisfied with just an inch or so. These styles can be just as sexy.
The Platform Heel- There are a few of these above so there is no need for a picture here, but the platform of today is not the platform of the 70's. (Even though, there are some of those around too). The platform has a 1-2inch rise at the ball and a substantial heel on the back. This allows for extra height as well as a sexy, long line. I am a short, squat woman so any added length to my nubs is welcome!

The Pointy-Toe- Okay, we all know what this is and we either love it, or hate it. I will tell you now, if you hate it, you are doing yourself a disservice. These shoes allow for a flow of the eye-line, causing you to look longer, and essentially leaner. If you have had a problem with the pointy toe being too narrow, you are probably buying, either too high of a heel or a crappy product. First, this shouldn't be an issue if you are buying leather. Leather gives and will form to your foot after you break them in. Yes, the first few times you wear them, they could be a bit snug but like I said, leather gives. Second, if you are buying a higher quality product you shouldn't have to worry about them hurting your feet. They are more expensive for a reason. Spend $50-$100 for a good, quality pair of pointy toed shoes and you will not regret it.

If there are shoes I did not list here... they are NOT wardrobe essentials. Of course, there are styles that suit individual tastes (ie, TOMS) but that does not make them key, or essential to building a working wardrobe. Tennis shoes and flip-flops are the enemy of great style, so if these are your go-tos, I would seriously advise you to change it up. Tennis shoes were made for sports and the gym, not for the fashion forward diva!

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials- Essential #5

Essential #5 is the Crisp White Top

This may seem like a bland addition to a wardrobe but it is an essential because it will go with absolutely anything! It doesn't have to be a button down, even though that is preferred, but it does need to match your essential style.

As you can see the crisp white shirt can be worn in many ways. Casual, dressed up, even in between. This is a very versatile piece and again should be purchased in a style you would wear. The one I own is corseted, no collar and latches instead of buttons. It doesn't have to be ubber professional but it does need to be something you can wear to an interview.

A few words of caution:
To The WHITE girl- and I mean really pale... Find a white that contrasts with your skin-tone. If you have a reddish tint to your skin a crisp white will work for you, even if you have an olive undertone it will but if you border on the vampiric side of white, go for a creamier white. It needs to off-set your skin, not blend in.

To the Busty Girl- STAY AWAY FROM RUFFLES!!! They are not your friend. Yes, your hubby loves that one ruffle number, but ask yourself why... He loves your boobs! And they look gigantic in that one ruffle number. I have this problem, my hubby LOVES my blue maxi-dress. And I now I know why. After going out in public I realized people couldn't keep their eyes off of my chest. I still love the dress but I have learned an undershirt is needed. Ruffles, however, can't be fixed with an undershirt. Also, avoid anything that doesn't button over your chest, or has an empire waistline that cuts your boobs in half. I don't care how cute it is, it won't look right.

Use pops of color everywhere else :). This is the way to show off that stunning green blazer or neon pants you purchased last week. This is the way to showcase your best jewelry. What about those shoes you bought with the funky print? You aren't sure what to wear them with, so you don't. Well, this is it.

Remember, this piece should and will go with everything in your closet as long as you buy it in your style!

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials - Essential #4

My #4 wardrobe essential is, non other than, the LBD.

By the picture above you've probably come to realize LBD stands for "Little Black Dress". This is an essential for many reasons. That HOT date you've been waiting for, a formal event, a nice dinner party... even hitting the club.

This is every sexy girls go-to-item because it is a great way to show off any figure.

Ways to wear the LBD:

The first look is for work. A sexy black dress is just as good as a power suit for a woman. Notice it is paired with a white blazer, this tones down the sexiness and allows you to look polished instead of skanky.
Look 2 is the sex kitten look, don't cover up too much, this dress was made to kill. Show off everything you have to offer with this stunning look.
Look 3 is made for the club, add a little bling and a funky shoe and you've set the mood just right to party all night!

For the skinny girl - Look for form fitting dresses that hug what curves you do have. Stay away from the draping fabrics and even find a dress with some peek-a-boo cut outs.

For the thick girl- SHAPEWEAR, SHAPEWEAR, SHAPEWEAR! I cannot stress this enough. The LBD is a sexy, slimming look but you have to realize where your flaws lie and work with them instead of fighting them. Look for empire waisted dresses, a-line skirts, and wrap-dresses. These are the most flattering cuts for your body type.

For the in-betweens - Again I say SHAPEWEAR! If you wear a fitted dress and you have a belly bulge... it will only be exaggerated. Know where your problem areas lie and work with them instead of fighting them. If you have big hips do not be afraid of the pencil skirt. The last two dresses in the first picture would look great if you had an hourglass or even bottom heavy figure. Top heavy? Go for the two above them.

The secret to ANY LBD is confidence. So if you try on a fabulous dress and you love it but are nervous about wearing it in front of anyone DON'T BUY IT! You can't be sexy and confident while tugging on your dress all night. You can't be sexy and confident if you are too worried about boob slippage. You also can't be sexy and confident if you are too covered. It's called a LITTLE black dress for a reason :)

Happy Shopping!

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials - Essential #3

Essential #3 is the suit!

Okay, so you are sitting there saying to yourself... Why on earth would I need a suit? I am not a professional. I am too young to wear a suit. I am too fashion forward to wear a suit.

This is where you are WRONG! I am not even asking you to wear a suit. I am not saying that the suit you buy should be worn once a week. I am saying, you will get TWO essential wardrobe items out of a suit!!!

Piece #1
The Blazer- Okay, a fitted blazer looks good on ANY body type. It's shape allows any woman the ability to seem like she has an hourglass figure. The lady above is pencil thin and has no chest or hips to speak of BUT the suit gives her the illusion of an hourglass shape. It's nipped at her smallest point and flares out towards her hips

How to Wear a Blazer
Above are some ways to wear a blazer. Example #1 is a casual daytime look that can easily be worn at night. Example #2 is a night out look. Example #3 is a daytime look. All three use the blazers from a suit. Note that NONE of the blazers are boring. The one on the left is even bright pink and there is nothing wrong with that.

Piece #2 - The pencil skirt, a-line skirt or dress pants

All three are wardrobe essentials, so no matter which one you choose you can't go wrong :)

How to wear a pencil skirt
Example #1 is a work-to-night look. Examples 2 and 3 are fun and flirty day looks. A pencil skirt shouldn't be just for the office or limited to the professionals. They showcase curves and give the illusion of curves to those who don't have any.

How to Wear an A-Line Skirt

KEEP IT SIMPLE! The fullness of the a-line is all the accessory you need. Adding too much can make the outfit seem bulky. It's fine to have some embellishment (see Ex. #2) but make sure your top half is fitted. Also, larger girls should look for A-lines that do not have too much extra bulk. The lining should be thin and the skirt itself shouldn't have too much extra fabric.

How to Wear Dress Pants

In this example I will give my best example for each body type (Skinny, Medium and Luscious)
In Example #1 I have paired cropped, skinny, floral pants with a funky racer-back top! This is a fun and funky look only you skinny girls can pull off. Embrace the big floral prints because they look FAB on you. In

Example #2 I went with a wide-leg dress pant and a peplum inspired top. This outfit will hide anything you have problems with and enhance your figure. If you are medium-but curvy this look will still work for you, just make sure you have a GREAT bra!!!

And for Example #3, the straight leg pant is the BEST option for the thicker girl (make SURE you have figured out your size before purchasing a pair or you WILL look lumpy!!) because these pants work with your curves without adding to them. The pants above have a slight boot-cut and that is fine but avoid anything that says flare. Layering pieces also allows for the illusion of curves (if you need it) and hides flaws (if you need to) and the pointy toe on the shoe also helps to elongate the body.

Now you can see why most stylists add this to their essential's arsenal! It is a fabulous way to add so many elements of style to your wardrobe!

Hope you've found some inspiration today!!

How to Make Spring's Trends Work For You! Neon

And for the final trend of the season!

Trend #10 - NEON
Who doesn't love an 80's throwback! Harem-pants, neon, side-ponys, they have all made their fabulous come-back this season and in season's past. Now, I am not a fan of harem-pants (ehem, Hammer-pants) but the other two trends I have embraced fully. Even tights with skirts/dresses was embraced in the 80's.

For the luscious ladies - This trend can be EXTREMELY hazardous for you! Neon is not your friend. Anything you put a neon color on is going to look bigger! It will show EVERY lump and bump you have. Am I saying "Don't embrace this trend!"? Of course not. All I am saying is do not wear a solid neon top or pair of pants/skirt. Find patterns with neon colors! I right now am wearing a top with a neon green and black pattern. Also, do not forget, purses, shoes, even nail polish this season had been touched by neon. Above is some nail polish I purchased this season. The wonderful neon colors have infiltrated almost everything this season so keep your eye out for the patterned dress, the nail polish. And, DO NOT buy anything in neon that is clingy. Yes, that t-shirt is a wonderful shade of green and it looks fab with your skin tone, but also notice that where it clings is where the eye is going to go, all of your flaws will be showcased.

For the skinny girl - Wear neon EVERYTHING! Neon can give you the illusion of curves because it is a color that deflects light. With the rays bouncing off of you, you will have an amazing figure and people will be astonished at your overnight transformation. This is another chance for you to rock the color-block as well. See the skirt above? It's sexy, it's fabulous and you are the only one who can pull it off!

For the in-betweens - Use caution with this trend. It's a fun way to show off your flirtatious side. Keep the neon to the part of your body you are most comfortable with. A neon top on a small chest can make it look much bigger. Neon deflects light and therefore will make you look curvier than you really are. Big hips? Avoid the neon skirt/pants, it will only make them look bigger. Make this trend work for you. Again, I want to reiterate the thing I seem to say to YOU most often, DON'T let the clothes wear you, YOU wear the clothes. If you are comfortable with your body (and have no tummy, back fat or cellulite) try an all over, solid color. *See pink dress above

How to Make Spring's Trends Work for You! Peplum

Trend #8 - Peplum
This is a trend I truly never wished to see again. Why? Because it is so stinkin' adorable and it looks hideous on me. It is a retro-inspired trend that works great for girls who want curves but don't really have them. However, if you have curves... I will leave it up to you to decide how you feel about it. I have seen girls like Beyonce pull it off but I have to be honest, I think it is her confidence that makes it work for her.

For the thick girl- this is a trend that could work for you. It gives the illusion of an hourglass figure. However, if you have a large butt and/or hips, this trend will only exaggerate those areas. This is a great way to hide a bit of baby fat or even that little protrusion you can't seen to get rid of. Just make sure that if you are trying to hide a belly that the fabric goes PAST your largest point. You don't want to draw attention to that area by drawing a line in the middle of it. Note the tan pencil skirt above, even the white and pink dress, these items have a longer overhang. This could be perfect for you. Also, do not be afraid to try a pencil skirt. Yes it will hug your sexy curves but you have a womanly figure, use it to your advantage. And do not be afraid of shapewear, a pencil skirt in a light color may show a bit of that cellulite. Shapewear will fix that problem and you will look ravishing!

For the skinny girl- This trend will give you the hips you've been lusting after your whole life. If you have a boyish figure you can embrace this trend with open arms. The lady I have seen pull this trend off the best is Emma Watson. Her slim, slightly boyish physique, is complimented greatly by peplum. Her athletic body is hugged by the tight fabric that gives way to a rich fullness, ending mid-hip to give her the illusion of an hourglass figure.

For the in-betweens - This trend can work for you as well. Keep in mind the tips stated above for both thick and skinny girls. Know your problem areas and know the ones you want to showcase.

Trend #9- Metallic Heels
This is a trend for the masses! Metallic heels have been a classic item for a very long time. They are glamorous and make a girl feel absolutely stunning. I know when I wear my metallic heels I feel like the whole world is looking at me. It may just be me, because if I saw a pair of fabulous, sparkly shoes I would be fixated, but it is a great trend none-the-less.

My advice (and this is great advice) METALLICS ARE NEUTRAL! (this is actually advice from Stacey London but I believe it as well). Metallic colors, minus the sheen, would fall into either nude, grey, brown, tan or black. Why should a sparkly sheen change that?

How to Make Spring's Trends Work for You! Ankle-Straps

Trend #2 - Day Clutches
Essentially these clutches are just bigger. You can't really go wrong with this trend. However, if you buy a neon handbag and tend to carry it near your belly, guess where the eye is going to go. Or, say you have a small chest and you tend to carry your bag under your arm... well, you get the point. Remember, handbags are where you should GO ALL OUT! Not that I am saying you should blow an entire paycheck (actually, the opposite might be smart) but you should make it a bold statement. The one above suited my personality well (which is why I chose it) but pick one that makes a statement!!

 Trend #3 - Ankle Straps!
This is a great trend for spring because we will all be wearing skirts, shorts, even cropped pants and what better way to showcase a stunning pair of legs :).

For the thick girl: This trend can definitely work for you. Don't shy away from it just because you are a bigger girl. Word of warning though, if you have cankles (and let's be honest, some bigger girls do) and you are embarrassed by them, this trend will only draw more attention to your problem area. For me, I have very defined ankles (chalk it up to the fact that I was a catcher my entire life) but I have large calves. I can never find boots that fit, so when spring/summer rolls around I am ready to wear my ankle-strap, sexy heels.

For the skinny girl: Again, this trend can work for you. However, if you have a lanky figure, this trend may not be the best idea. Bony ankles just look... bony with an ankle strap around them. But if you have defined calves and you have a thicker ankle, GO FOR IT! Remember, you can get away with bolder fashions so keep your accessories muted.

For the in-between girl: THIS trend was meant for you!!! Rock it! You have the ideal legs to pull this look off. Show off those sexy ankles! Don't you know the ankles were once considered the sexiest part of the female body? Show the world why!

Today's Outfit!

I like to build my favorite outfit's on Polyvore and this is the one I chose today. I like the punk-rock elements of this outfit. Especially the spikes on the heels. My outfit is actually blue (to match my eyes) but this was the closest thing I could find on the site. I hope you enjoy it. Check out the site for yourself and build your dream wardrobe :)

A List of the Best Places to Find Fashion For Less

Okay, like I said in my introduction I am always on the lookout for inexpensive finds. My journeys have led me to a few unexpected places along with some more obvious places. I want to throw out a few cautionary tips before I go into my budget friendly places.
  • Shopping the sales racks means you are buying out of season clothing. If you do this make sure the items you are purchasing are classic items (ie, pencil skirts, blazers, slacks and jeans) and shy away from the trendier items (ie, some prints, colors and statement tees).
  • When purchasing accessories/shoes stick with colors already in your color palate. BUT, buy that funky colored scarf or handbag you've been drooling over. Shoes last a LONG time. I have had some shoes for nearly ten years. However, a handbag only lasts me about 4 months (I'm rough with them...).
  • As far as trends go... Don't let the clothes wear you... You own the clothes!! What I mean is, simply, this: I am not a girly girl, however, spring trends are leaning in a floral direction. Did I purchase a floral top? Of course! But I paired it with ubber-dark skinnies, nude heels and a brown biker jacket. I promise you, I didn't look like a girly-girl. My handbag also takes away from the ubber-girly trend of florals. It's tan and black and studded!!
  • KNOW YOUR SIZE! Whether you are a plus-size, a size two or somewhere in between, this is THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of fashion! If you are wearing a shirt and/or jeans that are two sizes too small, no matter your size, you WILL look like a stuffed sausage!!! I live in Oklahoma so I see this A LOT! It is okay to be a plus sized woman! It is okay to be a size two! Again I say, OWN your clothes! Do NOT let them own you! Same goes for over-sized clothing. Do you want to look like you are wearing a burlap sack? Do you want to look 5 sizes bigger than you normally are? This is a mistake a lot of plus-sized women make. Whether they are trying to hide behind the fabric or do not truly know their size, it is tragic. Plus-sized women USUALLY have MAD CURVES!! Big boobs and a round bottom are something MOST women want. Own it! I will say right now, I breach the line. I wear a 36 H and I wear a size 12-16 depending on the manufacturer. Clothes can be a nuisance to me. I know the struggle of size and fit.
  • And last, pay attention to online sizing charts. They vary from store to store.
Okay now that that is out of the way I will give in and tell my favorite places to shop on a budget
  • Wal-Mart Online - I realize my credibility might have just flown out the window for some people but I will tell you now, if you don't take the time to go through their women's apparel ONLINE, you are missing out. I bought a shirt from Wal-Mart not too long ago. I was impressed with the quality and the up-to-date style. It was the first item, other than groceries, I had purchased from Wal-Mart in a really long time... and I have to say, I didn't see a single item in the rest of the store that I liked. So I come home to look it up and post it to pinterest and I find some AMAZING steals! $15 dresses, $20 jackets! I was blown away.
  • Target - Same as with above... it's a little more expensive than Wal-Mart but not exceedingly so...
  • Maurices - Maurices is almost always featured (in some aspect) in Lucky magazine! I only know this because I used to work there and the Lucky outfits would be put on the mannequins! They even have plus-sizes!
  • FlirtCatalog.com - This site has a lot of the featured items from some of the top magazines in the nation. Dresses as low as $15 and shoes as low as $20. I will admit it takes some rifling through to find the real gems but it is worth it!
  • GoJane.com - This site is much like the site above... however, you will find trendier items here. This is not the place to find a classic, timeless look but it will showcase the latest trends and keep you within your budget!
So, these are the sites and stores in my fashion arsenal. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
 Happy Shopping!

An Introduction

Lately I have been completely obsessed with fashion. As a teen I always tried to be in the know fashion wise, even if I was the only one in Oklahoma who actually tried a few trends. I have always been a huge fan of leopard prints, bright colors and high heels. Today I am trying my best to stick with classic styles and bring a little flare with a trendy piece here and a quirky piece there. I have a goal to never make it onto TLC's "What Not to Wear". Also, I am on a budget. This restricts how much I can spend on a certain item. I scour magazines and websites looking for ones that hold the key to my budget woes!! I have been able to keep up with the fashions for quite some time without breaking the bank. End-of-season sales are always great for staple items (try not to buy trendy items after they've gone out of season because they will soon go out of style as well). And splurge on the trendy item when it hits the rack. This doesn't mean go find the most expensive dress and say hey... it's trendy... it's now... I have to have it. Still keep in mind there are some GREAT stores that will keep you within your budget. One of my FAVES and is featured - in some aspect - in nearly EVERY Lucky magazine... Maurice's!! They are budget friendly and trend friendly. But more on that later... I hope you will follow my blog and go on this adventure with me.
